The Smoky Mountain Hobeaus got a stellar effort from pitcher Cisco Díaz, helping Smoky Mountain score a win over the visiting Chicago Tula, 5-2. By defeating Chicago, the 9th-place Hobeaus improved to 38-53.

The Hobeaus got a big hit from first baseman Jesús López. In the bottom of the sixth, López smacked a 3-run home run off Chicago pitcher Stanley Rowe. It was his 6th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Hobeaus were ahead, 4-2.

López attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
