The first-place Las Vegas Flamingos took on the D.C. Divided in front of a spirited crowd.
Las Vegas Flamingos starter Naohiro Ueno hurled his team past the D.C. Divided, 5-1. The winner in relief was Nelson McNeil. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Richard Clift came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing D.C. pitcher Lou Thompson, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Las Vegas on top, 3-1.
"Naohiro set the tone with his ability to attack the hitters," said Las Vegas manager Tom Williams.
The Flamingos, at 19-6, have now won 4 straight.
