Liberty U-21 Win at Home, 4-1
|
Philadelphia Liberty U-21 starter Bill Griggs pitched a strong game against the Crowley Cajuns at Ballpark of Liberty, leading the Liberty U-21 to victory, 4-1. Griggs, now 2-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Denis Teissier recorded his 7th save for Philadelphia.
Fernando Castro had a big 2-run double for the Liberty U-21 in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Marvin Cowan and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Liberty U-21 ahead, 3-0.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Griggs.
The Liberty U-21 sport a record of 9-13.
