Arryns Dealt 1-0 Loss by Smoky Mountain
|
Smoky Mountain pitcher Wanko Wasko had a large part in his team beating the Lake Erie Arryns, 1-0. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 8 innings, Wasko surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. António Valenzuela got the save, his 4th in 4 chances.
Smoky Mountain left fielder Scott Steiner contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a cutter to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 57th hit of the season and put the Hobeaus ahead, 1-0.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Smoky Mountain manager Belchior Tinoco.
The 9th-place Hobeaus are 40-54.
