Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Flanderses
Mauk Olthuis was a vital contributor to the 8-6 Hudsonville victory over Fort Knox. The Flanderses designated hitter was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Hudsonville pitcher Fred Scott earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Chad Morris suffered the loss. Yi-da Gui closed the door for Hudsonville, picking up his 2nd save of the year.

The Centennial had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Flanderses going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old shortstop Oliver Joicey came to the plate. Joicey hit a 2-run double on a 2-1 fastball from Fort Knox hurler Chad Morris. It was Joicey's 4th double of the year.

"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Joicey told a Hudsonville Gazette reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."

Hudsonville, with the win, climbs to 8-17.
