The Colorado Billy Goats earned a close win over the Echo Park Lakers, thanks in part to Sloppy Thurston. The Colorado right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the SL in wins with 3, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Thurston yielded 2 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-1. George Atwater got the save, the 8th for him this season.
Colorado used the hitting of Zak Woods to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Billy Goats on top, 3-1. For the game, Woods had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Billy Goats manager Mack Kilkeary.
Colorado, at 13-14, holds down 6th place in the Silver League.
