Piranhas Prevail, 3-2, Over Mexico City
|
Panama City pitcher Juan Cruz had a large part in his team subduing the Mexico City Blue Demons, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Cruz, now 3-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Min Der nailed down the save.
Nathan Pretty had a big run-scoring double for the Piranhas in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Panama City leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from 12-year veteran Marvello Manalo and swatted a double to left. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Piranhas ahead, 3-1.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager JJ Hoban.
The victory gives Panama City a record of 15-13.
