The bats were silent much of the day at The Igloo. But 20-year old third baseman Bill Long produced just enough offense to carry the Snowpeople past the Philadelphia Liberty U-21, 3-1. Long threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Steven Cowan was credited with the save for Ellesmere Island, his 1st of the season. The win gives Ellesmere Island a record of 1-1.

Cristo González, who is rated as the 65th best prospect by BNN, took Philadelphia hurler Michael Walker deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Snowpeople on top, 2-0. In all, González had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

Long told a Ellesmere Island Chronicle reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
