Méndez Powers Centennial Offense
|
Riding the 4-hit performance of the 20-year old third baseman Manuel Méndez, the Fort Knox Centennial stopped the Redwood Rhinos, 3-1. Nick Hensley picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-3. He struck out 5 in 8.2 innings. Ken Irvin sewed up the save, his 10th.
Méndez had a timely hit for Fort Knox in the bottom of the eighth. With Fort Knox trailing 1-0, he turned a first pitch fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 3-1, Fort Knox.
Méndez attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
The first-place Centennial improved to 41-24.
