Flanderses Pin 5-2 Loss on Northwest Territory
|
Starting pitcher Fa-tang Xiong had a solid game. He was a big reason the Hudsonville Flanderses throttled the Northwest Territory Beavers, 5-2. Xiong, the winner, moves to 6-5. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Hudsonville, at 45-27, is 4½ games up in the Premier Low A.
The Flanderses got an important contribution from right fielder Adam Paynter, who in the bottom of the fifth knocked a 2-0 fastball to left-center for a run-scoring triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put the Flanderses ahead, 3-1.
Said losing manager Robert Acker: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
