Uruguayans Handle Beavers, Nab 7-4 Win
The Germantown Uruguayans took on the Northwest Territory Beavers at Ballpark of Albuquerque.

Sammy Badgett did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Northwest Territory Beavers from being beaten, 7-4, to the Germantown Uruguayans at Ballpark of Albuquerque. Badgett was 2-2 with a triple and 3 walks. Germantown pitcher Ignacio Cortés got the win, upping his record to 2-2. Greg Thomas got the loss.

The Beavers had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Uruguayans going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old third baseman Rafael Chávez came to the plate. Chávez hit a 2-run double on a 0-2 fastball from Northwest Territory hurler Greg Thomas. It was Chávez's 17th double of the year.

In postgame comments to the Germantown Herald, Chávez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

The 7th-place Uruguayans are now 36-37, the Beavers 24-49.
