|
The Northwest Territory Beavers did just enough to sneak past the Redwood Rhinos, 2-1, at Beaver Town. Northwest Territory pitcher Culley Porterfield, in particular, had a standout performance. In 5.1 innings, Porterfield surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Héctor Silva earned the save for Northwest Territory, his 13th of the year.
The Rhinos had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Beavers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Sammy Badgett came to the plate. Badgett hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Redwood hurler Kurt Cannon. It was Badgett's 11th home run of the year.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Redwood manager Joe Goff, "let me know."
Northwest Territory, with the win, climbs to 28-55.
