Memphis picked up a win at The Stage in Memphis, bumping off the Germantown Uruguayans, 2-0. Pitcher Steve Allen was a major reason the Music emerged victorious. Allen, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. The Music now have a record of 30-59.
The Uruguayans had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Music going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old third baseman Gerald Cooper came to the plate. Cooper hit a solo home run on a 3-1 fastball from Germantown hurler Dan Black. It was Cooper's 14th home run of the year.
"Steve was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Memphis manager Omar Casteneda.
