Helmer Carlsson, who is tied for 2nd in the PA- with a 8.7 K/9 rate, imposed his will on the Uruguayans from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 Tulsa triumph. Tulsa has 7 straight wins, Germantown 3 straight losses.
Tulsa used a clutch at-bat from Marc Taylor to capture the win. The shortstop hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Otters ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Tulsa skipper Bob Grzelak.
