Warheads Earn Clutch Win, 1-0
|
Bompton wasted a solid 7-inning effort from starting pitcher Koos Lodder, losing to Amarillo, 1-0, at Ballpark of Henderson. Amarillo reliever Ken Leach picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. George Paddock was saddled with the loss. Lorenzo Hernández got credit for the save for Amarillo. It was his 3rd of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Fred Edwards came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Bompton pitcher George Paddock, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Amarillo on top, 1-0.
"It wasn't easy, but we got it done," said Edwards.
The Warheads have now won 5 straight.
