Big Day for Ganchas in 8-0 Shockers Win
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 21-year old catcher Victorino Ganchas, the Surprise Shockers stopped the Amarillo Warheads, 8-0. Narihira Yamamoto, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 4 hits and no runs, while striking out 7 and walking 0. Surprise is now 17-21.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Shockers sent 20-year-old first baseman John Cobb to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a 3-run home run, to put Surprise on top, 8-0.
"They took it to us," said Amarillo manager José López.
