The Target hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Maine Sea Dogs used a great performance from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Alfonso Velásquez to beat the Beaumont Crossbeaus, 2-1, at The Target. The winning pitcher was Velásquez, now 1-3. He tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 2. Jeff Robinson finished the game for Maine and earned his 2nd save.
Maine took control in the top of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Lonnie McMillan hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Sea Dogs.
"I pretty much put my pitches where I wanted to," said Velásquez.
With the win, Maine goes to 15-23, while the Crossbeaus fall to 22-16.
