The Surprise Shockers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Gustavo Martínez, who muffled the Beaumont offense en route to a tight, 2-0 Shockers win at The Target. Martínez, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. Ryunosuke Nagata picked up the save, his 5th.

Pedro Rey, who is tied for 7th in the SA- in home runs with 7, drew 2 walks in 4 plate appearances for Surprise. In a tie game with no one out in the top of the seventh, Rey came through with a run-scoring walk. It put the Shockers in front, 1-0.

"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Martínez said.

Today's win puts Surprise at 21-26, while Beaumont falls to 26-21.
