The Memphis Mockingbirds withstood an impressive performance by Echo Park second baseman Eichiro Kaneko to defeat the Lakers, 7-5, at LA Forum. Kaneko was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs. Memphis pitcher Alonso Romero got the win. He's now 4-1. Bernardo Cruz was tagged with the loss. David Thornton earned the save for Memphis.

Butch Collins hit a 2-run double off Bernardo Cruz in the top of the third, which put the Mockingbirds in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Collins had 2 singles, while going 3 for 5.

"I hate to be the fly in the ointment," said Collins, "but we could've played better."

The Mockingbirds now own a record of 19-20.
