|
Beaumont right-hander Gabriel Pérez pitched his team to victory over the Philadelphia Liberty U-21 at Ballpark of Liberty. The final score was 5-4. Pérez, the winner, moves to 6-3. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Mario García closed the door for Beaumont, picking up his 17th save of the year.
Scott Steiner had a big 2-run home run for the Crossbeaus in the top of the third inning. With Beaumont leading 3-1 and a runner on 3rd, he got a slider from Bob McCormick, who is tied for 10th in the SA- in wins with 4, and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 7th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Crossbeaus ahead, 5-1.
"We have a lot of confidence in Gabriel," said Beaumont manager José Ortega.
The second-place Crossbeaus have won 5 consecutive games.
