Warheads Score Late to Beat Shockers, 5-4
|
Amarillo right fielder Boyd Barnett was a significant contributor in his team's 5-4 triumph over the Surprise Shockers. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Warheads. The win went to Gerald Delgado in relief, making him now 4-2. Paco González took the loss for Surprise. Kyle Warren earned the save, his 9th.
Had Jim Giles not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Giles hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Warheads.
"We ground out the win," said Barnett. "That's all that matters."
The 5th-place Warheads have won 5 straight.
