Warheads Get Clutch Win, 3-2
|
Philadelphia got a terrific performance from pitcher Bob McCormick, but it wasn't enough to beat the Amarillo Warheads. Amarillo won the Ballpark of Liberty contest, 3-2. McCormick threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. Cecil Cornett earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He upped his record to 5-3. By defeating Philadelphia, the 6th-place Warheads improved to 33-32.
Amarillo used the timely hitting of Tim Love to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Warheads on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Philadelphia manager Santiago Paez said, following the tough loss.
