The Beaumont Crossbeaus beat the Tijuana Toros, 5-4, in part because of catcher Jacob Webb. He went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Ánibal Vázquez earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 3-2. Mike McCauley earned save number 9 this season.
Had Webb not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Webb hit a run-scoring single. The Crossbeaus took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"We're our own worst enemy right now," said Tijuana skipper Milton Mathews.
Now 25-47, Tijuana has dropped 10 games in a row.
