Shockers Scratch Out 2-0 Win
|
The Surprise Shockers picked up a win at Shockers Field, topping the Beaumont Crossbeaus, 2-0. On the mound for Surprise was left-hander Horace Cooper. He played a principal role in the triumph. Cooper yielded no runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 8-1. Carlos Balderas closed the door for Surprise, picking up his 21st save of the year.
The Shockers got a big hit from shortstop Ángel Ortíz. Facing Beaumont pitcher Guy Fontaine in the bottom of the fifth, Ortíz pounded a solo home run to center. His 12th home run of the season put the Shockers ahead, 2-0.
"Horace gave us a huge shot in the arm," said Surprise manager Geoffroy Cadaloba.
At 41-35, the Shockers are currently 6th in the Silver Low A.
