Maine Dismisses Beaumont, 6-3
|
The Maine Sea Dogs used the hitting of designated hitter Mike Wheeler to subdue the Beaumont Crossbeaus, 6-3. For the game, Wheeler was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Neil Smith, credited with the win in relief, is now 4-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. Roy Harris earned the save for Maine, his 15th.
Wheeler contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Maine in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Wheeler took a fastball from Iemochi Ueda and stroked the home run to right. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Sea Dogs to leap in front, 3-2.
"We didn't get the results that we wanted," said Beaumont skipper Ángel Macías.
The win puts Maine at 29-50.
