Jeff Gooden was locked in. The right-hander led the Surprise Shockers to a 5-4 win against the Maine Sea Dogs at Sea Dogs Park. Harlan MacKnight earned the save for Surprise, his 8th of the year. Surprise occupies 7th place in the Silver Low A at 37-44.

Pedro Rey had a big 2-run double for the Shockers in the top of the sixth inning. With Surprise leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Patrick Cook and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shockers ahead, 5-0.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Maine manager Pedro Hernández. "But we decided not to take it."
