The Ballard Beavers downed the Memphis Music, 1-0, at The Stage in Memphis. Stellar pitching by Marv Thomas had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 7th in the SA- in strikeouts with 94, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 8 innings, Thomas surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Jack Parker was credited with the save for Ballard, his 5th of the season.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Xue-qin Zhou? The Ballard shortstop had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Beavers on top, 1-0. For the game, Zhou had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
