Mockingbirds Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Kingfishers
|
Getting a good performance from catcher Carlos Gómez, the Memphis Mockingbirds defeated the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 6-3. Gómez was 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Mockingbirds. Juan Cervantes earned the win to go to 2-2. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 8 innings of work. Memphis, at 22-22, occupies 5th place in the Silver League.
The Kingfishers had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Mockingbirds going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder José Roseta came to the plate. Roseta hit a 2-run triple on a 1-1 fastball from Pittsburgh hurler Cisco Navarro. It was Roseta's 1st triple of the year.
Memphis manager Beau Carsten commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
