Beavers Stop Canucks, 5-2
|
The Ballard Beavers picked up a win at The Beaver Dam, downing the Moose Jaw Canucks, 5-2. On the mound for Ballard was right-hander Jeremy Foster, who played a pivotal role in the win. In 8 innings, Foster surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Milton Fisher finished the game for Ballard and earned his 8th save.
Jorge Martínez had a big 3-run home run for the Beavers in the bottom of the third inning. With Ballard leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 18-year old right-handed pitcher Nobuyoki Nii and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Beavers on top, 5-1.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Foster told the Ballard Chronicle. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The second-place Beavers now sit at 14-8.
