The Philadelphia Liberty U-21 defeated the Shady Side Zoomies, 4-2, in USSL Low A action at Ballpark of Liberty. Philadelphia pitcher Willis Thomas had a standout performance. Martín Machado picked up his 7th save of the season. The win gives Philadelphia a season record of 55-35.
David Johnson came through for Philadelphia when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a two-strike cutter to left field, staking his team to a 3-2 lead.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Philadelphia skipper Santiago Paez.
