The Philadelphia Liberty defeated the Detroit Rock City, 5-2, in United States Silver League action at Detroit Stadium. Oliver Ortega pulled his weight. The 10-year veteran was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Millard Cowan snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-0 on the season. Jonathan Luna suffered the loss. The setback makes Detroit 17-28.
Had Ortega not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Ortega hit a 3-run home run. The Liberty took the lead, 5-2, and never looked back.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Ortega said after the game.
