The Greenport Harbor Whales went down to defeat to Jake Blackmon and his Long Island teammates. The final score was 4-1, in favor of the Ducks. Justin MacBurie closed the game out for Long Island, earning his 9th save. The 8th-place Ducks have won 4 straight games.
Andrés Varela came through with a big-time hit for Long Island. The pinch hitter smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Varela told a Long Island Citizen reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
