Thanks in large part to center fielder Shannon Miller, the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople beat the Ogallala Octopi, 6-4. Miller went 3-5 with a home run and a triple, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Marvin Johnson, who threw 101 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 10 hits. Eibe Heesemans earned the save, his 1st, for the Snowpeople.

There were several reasons the Snowpeople beat the Octopi, but one factor was Takao Kamida. In the top of the fourth, the Ellesmere Island designated hitter came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Kamida told the Ellesmere Island Bulletin. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."

The Snowpeople raised their record to 22-23.
