Bethlehem wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher José Esquivel, falling to the Ballard Beavers, 3-1. Esquivel threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Alejandro Cordero, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held the Angel Kitties to 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Lowell Nash sewed up the save, his 20th.
The Beavers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Chris Rodríguez. For the game, Rodríguez was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Ballard a 3-1 lead.
"Bottom line," said Bethlehem skipper Miguel Martínez, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The 4th-place Beavers have won 4 consecutive games.
