Canucks Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
Starting pitcher Fjodor Ishemgujin gave the Moose Jaw Canucks a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Bompton Baby Lakers, 1-0, at Foresters Stadium. Ishemgujin, now 3-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 2, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Vito Riley closed out the game, earning his 4th save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Canucks had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when center fielder Shigeaki Kawaguchi hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Chris Martin and made the score 1-0, Canucks. Kawaguchi was 1 for 2 with a walk.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Bompton manager Tyrone Poole, "let me know."
The 6th-place Canucks hiked their record to 41-34.
