Tight Tilt Goes to Beavers, 4-3
|
Ballard beat Greenport at The Beaver Dam, escaping with a 4-3 win. The win in large part was due to left fielder Luis Vargas. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The third-place Beavers now have a win-loss record of 44-33.
Rick O'Shea went 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI for Ballard. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, O'Shea, who is tied for 3rd in the 3A- in extra base hits with 23, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Greenport hurler Ernesto Martínez, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Beavers a 4-3 lead.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Greenport skipper Mike Brown.
