The North Ft. Myers Gators got a sterling performance from pitcher Kent Getright, but the Ballard Beavers still prevailed, 5-3. Getright threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Yoritoki Watanabe, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. The Beavers move to 37-43 with the win, while the Gators drop to 32-48.
With a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, center fielder Noud Wolthaus delivered big for the Beavers. Ballard was trailing 3-1 when he belted a 2-run home run.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Ballard manager Giddy Potts. "It's usually not just one thing."
