The Ellesmere Island Snowpeople topped the Watford City Trash Pandas, 3-2, at The Igloo. Ellesmere Island designated hitter Branco Verkade was a spark plug for the offense. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ellesmere Island reliever Steven Cowan picked up the win to move to 8-11. Fernando Granja suffered the loss. Ellesmere Island now owns a record of 41-48.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 19-year old right fielder Matt Owens had a chance to be the hero. Watford City pitcher Fernando Granja wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Owens drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Snowpeople had themselves a thrilling win.
Ellesmere Island manager Rodrige Margalha commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
