Cody Beasley of the Plattsburgh Puffer Fish was on top of his game.
The 21-year-old tantalized the North Ft. Myers Gators with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.
"He had the changeup working," North Ft. Myers manager Felipe Palazzola said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Plattsburgh hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Beasley told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Checking out his stats for the season, Beasley has notched 9 wins and 5 losses in 20 starts. His ERA is 2.05 and he's struck out 131 batters in 144.2 innings.
