Losing Trend Continues for MSL Detroit
|
The exploits of center fielder Francisco Vargas helped the MSL Toledo Stingers defeat the MSL Detroit Elite, 6-2. Vargas was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jay Keirl, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Juan Zamora earned the save for MSL Toledo, his 1st of the year.
MSL Toledo used the bat of Roel Spee to get the win. The right fielder hit a sinker from Álex Canseco out of the park for a 2-run home run. The blast came in the top of the fifth inning and put the Stingers on top, 2-1. It was Spee's lone hit, but it left a mark.
"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said MSL Detroit manager Raúl Guerrero.
The win leaves MSL Toledo with a record of 8-1.
