MSL Northern Virginia took on MSL Hollywood in front of a lively crowd.

The MSL Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids rode a solid performance from 17-year-old starting pitcher Martin Schneider to a win, beating the MSL Hollywood Shredders, 6-1, at MSL Northern Virginia Ballpark. Quinton Barnard got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Tim Bender came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing MSL Hollywood pitcher Héctor Navarro, he hit a 2-0 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting MSL Northern Virginia on top, 2-1.

"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Schneider.

The loss makes MSL Hollywood 6-10.
