The MSL Detroit Elite beat the MSL Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 5-4, at MSL Northern Virginia Ballpark. The Elite got a fine performance from first baseman Grégory Garcia, who went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. The win was credited to 19-year old right-handed pitcher Ángel Espinoza in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Juan Carlos Mejía took the loss. The Elite now own a record of 16-16.
Had Garcia not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Garcia hit a run-scoring single. The Elite took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
MSL Detroit manager Jesús Garces called it "a good, solid win."
