Oftroy Torches Hurricanes for 5 Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead MSL Panama City's 9-4 victory over the MSL Cape Coral Hurricanes, second baseman Thepfall Oftroy told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the M3L Mexican Summer League-level is really something special."
The 18-year-old player earned his accolades at MSL Cape Coral Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Hurricanes.
"His swing is getting there," said Piranhas skipper Anthony Mitchell, who spoke glowingly of Oftroy after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Thepfall did that to perfection."
Thepfall Oftroy doubled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ty Simmons in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far on the season, Oftroy is hitting .283 with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 26 hits and played in 23 games.
