Ponies Score Late to Upend Oaks, 6-2
|
The MSL Oakland Oaks could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Avery Finley into a win. Instead, the MSL Kingston Ponies prevailed, 6-2. Finley threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Roberto Gil snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2.1 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. MSL Kingston, at 14-9, occupies third place in the 3L MSL.
MSL Kingston used the clutch hitting of Juan Castillo to snag the win. The designated hitter drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ponies ahead, 6-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Castillo told the MSL Kingston Observer.
