Grey Wolves Suffer 2-1 Setback
|
In a low-scoring game between MSL Long Island and MSL Vancouver, pitcher Elton Willetts was excellent. The MSL Long Island right-hander helped his team knock off the Grey Wolves, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Willetts, now 3-2. He tossed 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 5. Carlos Ruíz closed it out for MSL Long Island, earning his 6th save.
MSL Long Island used the hitting of Juan Cruz to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Lighthouse on top, 2-0. For the game, Cruz had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Willetts told the MSL Long Island Herald. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
MSL Long Island bumps their record to 9-6 with the win.
