The MSL Charleston Battery rode a solid performance from 18-year-old starting pitcher Reynold Bothof to a win, beating the MSL Detroit Rock City, 3-1, at MSL Charleston Ballpark. MSL Charleston reliever Miguel Zavala got the win, raising his record to 4-1. Javier Fernández was tagged with the loss. The save went to Sang-keun Yi, his 10th this season.
MSL Charleston center fielder Roberto Ornelas helped the Battery go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Ornelas hit a run-scoring single off MSL Detroit pitcher Boudewijn van Oosterom.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" MSL Charleston manager António Díaz said.
MSL Charleston, now 23-21, holds down 6th place in the 3L MSL.
