Big Day with Bat: Valera 5-for-5
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Carlos Valera, it came around today.

The 16-year-old third baseman scattered hits all over MSL Long Island Ballpark to pace the 7-0 MSL Memphis Mockingbirds victory over the MSL Long Island Lighthouse.

MSL Long Island skipper Hsien-feng Chen told reporters in the press room that "Valera deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Valera hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Carlos Valera singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Valera is currently hitting at a .292 pace with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
