Velásquez Sends MSL Pittsburgh Bats to Deep Freeze
|
It wasn't easy but the MSL Memphis Mockingbirds made it look that way.
Starter Juan Velásquez shut out the MSL Pittsburgh Kingfishers despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the MSL Memphis Mockingbirds cruised to victory, 7-0. Velásquez allowed only 2 hits and rang up 11 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
To this point in the season Velásquez has 8 wins and 3 losses and a 3.94 ERA.
