Their bats were silent and Fort Knox had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Centennial struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 22-year-old starter Ánibal Machado. The right-hander quieted the Crowley Cajuns at Titans Ballpark to help Fort Knox take the 3-1 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-3 PL R Championchip.

Machado delivered a quality start for Fort Knox. The 6-foot-0 right-hander allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits over 7 innings of work.

"We lost," Crowley manager Bill Wallace said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Titans Ballpark in Crowley.
