The rookie looked like he belonged out there.

The Beaumont Crossbeaus sent 18-year-old right-hander Raúl Sánchez to the mound for a high-pressure playoff start and he repaid their confidence, quieting the Philadelphia Liberty U-21 on a day where the Crossbeaus struggled to produce runs of their own. In the end, Beaumont cobbled together enough to take the 2-1 decision. The win gave Beaumont a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 SL R Championship.

The Crossbeaus liked what they saw from Sánchez. The 18-year- old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Liberty U-21 to 1 run on 2 hits over 8 innings, and striking out 3.

Liberty U-21 manager Luis Costello did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the SL R Championship."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Liberty in Kansas City.
